Pesticides save Rs.2.5 lakh crore worth grains, says Dhanuka Agritech

Ahmedabad: Through judicious use of pesticides, it is possible to save food grain loses worth Rs. 2.5 lakh crore per annum which could address the food security concern in India, to a large extent, according to BSE-listed agro-chem player Dhanuka Agritech.

"By proper exploitation of yield potential of crops, the Indian agricultural sector has the capacity to add Rs.5 lakh crore worth food grains per annum," said Mr R.G. Agarwal, Group Chairman, Dhanuka Agritech.

Addressing a gathering of pesticides dealers and farmers at the opening of exclusive Dhanuka Agritech franchisee outlets at Rajkot and Kadi, Mr Agarwal said that Dhanuka Agritech's present focus is on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with various State Governments through the company's knowledge forums to educate the farmers and agri-input Dealers to advise and adopt improved technology to tackle the food security issue."

Besides its efforts to address the food security issue through the PPP model in States such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Hyderabad, the company has also initiated special focus on rain water harvesting and conservation and use during dry spell. The company conducts year-round educational activities in close cooperation of the State Agricultural Universities, State Departments of Agriculture, NGOs and farmers for creating mass awareness about rain water conservation and judicious use of agro-chemical.

Dhanuka Agritech has, especially, laid emphasis, in its 50 years of existence in the agro chemicals sector in India, on eco-friendly formulations, low-dose active pesticides, integrated pest management, and weed management.

The company has recently acquired a 15-acre plot to expand its capacity in research and development at Sanand, where it has a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
