Asaram Bapu's petition to quash FIR rejected
By ENN,
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court today rejected spiritual guru Asaram Bapu's petition seeking to quash a First Information Report (FIR) filed against him on the charge of attempt to murder a former devotee.
''There is a case as firing took place and the court cannot stop the police from investigating into the incident,'' said High Court Judge Aqueel Qureshi while rejecting Asaram Bapu's petition filed through his counsel B M Gupta.
City police had registered a case under sections 307, 120 B, 154 of Indian Penal Code and section 25(1) of Arms Act against the spiritual guru and two others on a complaint by a former disciple Raju Chandak, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after he was fired at and injured by two youth riding a motorcycle in Sabarmati area on the night of December 5.
Chandak, a former secretary of the Asaram Bapu ashram here, filed the case against the spiritual guru next day.
He had recently testified against the spiritual guru in the case relating to suspicious death of two Ashram inmates Deepak and Abhishek - both cousins - whose bodies were found from the Sabarmati riverbed near the Ashram two days after they went missing last year.
There was a public outcry against the Ashram for alleged tantrik rituals in the wake of the death of two boys.
